Rocon Contractors Ltd, as it is known today, was originally incorporated as Rocon Ltd in 1962, but even before this time the company, originally founded by Mr Phillip Rope, was known as Rope Contractors (part of Rope Holdings), and it was only later on, that the Ro & the Con were taken to abbreviate the name to Rocon.

Rope Contractors started life as an agricultural contractor in the 1950's, and as Basingstoke was developed the company moved into heavy earth moving and plant hire. Then, during the recession period of the late 1970's & early 1980's, the company evolved from Rocon Ltd into Rocon Contractors Ltd & it was during this period that the plant hire and heavy earth moving side of the business were slowly removed as part of the diversifying process, and the company then expanded into groundworks, civil engineering and small building projects.
